Back from the dead

Well, after months, I at last have a working PC again. By working I mean, lumbering second-hand rig thats hemorraging RAM - but hey, it runs Sketchbook Pro at least!

R.I.P old laptop. Now to get the flow going again...

Alien profile

Alien head / shoulder turnaround(ish). On reflection, theres definitely some Predator influences in there with those wiggly bits towards the back of the head. Sketchbook pro2.

Nip and tuck...

I've decided to clear off the crap from my blog, but left a few old bits and pieces. Things were getting a little saturated and stale - so its time for a fresh start.

Been out of the art loop for a good few months at least, for a number of reasons, not finding time or space to create being the main one. Hoping that a new focus will sort all that out - so stay tuned! If you were just passing, or even if you come here often, feel free to add yourself to the list of blog followers - would be nice to know who stops by. Cheers!

Exiting Menzoberranzan

Idea inspired by Drizzt Do'Urdens departure from the underdark. No characters, just a background... and confirmation that I read way too many fantasy novels.

Old Man Willow

Current fauna/creature image I'm working on - just started laying in some colours under the sketch. Thought it was time to do something more with this idea - so this is the first pass at it.

ImagineFX feature from June 07

Thought I'd post this to break things up a bit. The guys at IFX were kind enough to feature my artwork in the interactive FXpose for the June '07 issue (#18 DVD) of ImagineFX magazine.

Sea-Fi Challenge entry - Leviathan's Feast!

From WIP to finished imaged [left to right]. Challenge entry I painted for ImagineFX. I'm quite happy with the way this has turned out. Looks as though those people in that submarine will never see the light of day again... should have painted some escape pods!

The Shaman...

The Dragon Shaman, come to strip the flesh from your bones...

Mythical beast WIP

A recent mythical beast concept idea I had for a challenge. Part dragon, part gryphon. The original sketch is below, the colour version, albeit unfinished, is above. It was originally going to be a silver/metal creature, but I opted for a more organic look, using refs such as crocodiles and eagles.

Bit of life drawing

Thought I'd get a couple of quick biro sketches out of my cat while she was sleeping. Sometimes I wish I had it that easy and could just go to sleep whenever.

Challenge painting - Predator

This image was painted for a challenge with the title of 'charge' over at ImagineFX.com. Shown here is the before and after images from loose sketch to finished image. I wanted to show that bit in the film Predator, where he's rising from the water and his camo suit is crackling and sparking - losing its charge.
